From On-Campus to On-Demand – Keep IT safe and available for critical student access
Moderated by Kevin Hogan, eCampus News, Editor-at-Large
The academic community is a ripe target for malicious actors and adept students. Higher education institutions often host sensitive research data, patent information and a vast amount of student personal data while supporting a sprawling campus of information resources used by students, faculty and others. The current pandemic has added to these problems and has sent university network administrators scrambling to accommodate the rapid shift to remote, on-line learning, coping with unprecedented traffic volumes on university network infrastructure and a vastly increased risk of security breaches.
During this session we are going to discuss the challenges now faced by educational institutions that manage their own networks and IP address pools, including real world case studies in education and more. We will also review some of the capabilities needed to protect university networks against DDoS attacks, optimize existing IPv4 infrastructure, meet short term capacity requirements and balance traffic efficiently.
The session will cover:
What global technology trends impact university networks
How has Covid-19 impacted global networks and university IT
How will the globalization of education change University IT post pandemic?
How can you address your IT challenges
What action can be taken now
